Honami Koetsu
 
Honami Koetsu (1558 - 1637), calligrapher and designer born in Kyoto, Japan.  He became famous for his Raku and lacquerware.  His numerous interests made him one of the most creative figures in the history of Japanese art and an artist of tremendously wide achievement. 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 


He collaborated with the great master of the later decorative style, Sotatsu (1576 - 1643), and founded Takagamine, a community of artists and craftsmen in Northern Kyoto which infused the Japanese art world with new vigor.
